Cool Down Exercise - for Healthy Lungs
This is also a good cool down exercise; when you are finished doing your moderate level of exercise activity, this is one of the good ways to breathe in correctly and bring the heart rate down back to normal. This can also be done at different times of the day for relaxation and for strengthening the lungs. Asthma patients will also benefit from this type of breathing. If possible, do this exercise outdoors in fresh air but if not, it is just fine to do it anywhere - at work desk, at home, standing, walking, driving, anytime. I have made it a habit to do this exercise while driving.
- (a) Inhale - take a deep breath.
- (b) Hold for a count of at least 10.
- (c) Exhale - breathe all the way out.
- (d) Repeat inhaling and exhaling as in steps (a) –(c) for 10
times.
NOTE: Ideally, try to do this breathing routine sequence (a) – (d), 3 times in a day. Strong healthy lungs help reduce asthma symptoms for people with this condition.
