You have all heard the slogan "Say NO to smoking" and "Smoking is bad for your health". I am very glad if you are the not the one who needs to worry about it because you do not smoke. But do you drink? This question customarily refers to alcholic drinks but here my question refers to "Do you drink Coke, Pepsi, Sprite, etc"? Well, it might seem silly to ask this question because every one like from 4 year olds to teens to youth to middle aged to oldies, everyone loves to drink soda.
Well, If you are like me, health aware person, then please Say NO to Coke, Pepsi or any of the soft drinks, I mean like most of the time. Well, how about deciding to have soft drink only on special occasions or if you have been nice to yourself, then as a way of rewarding yourself.
Please read carefully the stark facts below and then decide for yourself:
- Did you that know that soda raises your risk of diabetes?
- Drinking soda is like washing your teeth with acid. It erodes the teeth enamel gradually.
- Soda raises your risk of osteoporosis. It has been found to affect women even worse than men and putting them more at risk.
- What about that middle circle that many of us have and need to get rid of? Did you ever realize those glasses of soda contribute a lot to widening the waistline?
- Did you know that excess of soda can damage the functioning of our pancreas. Pancreas secrete insulin. Intake of large amounts of soda makes an increased demand from out pancreas to produce more insulin. Over time the pancreas might get overstressed finally giving up leading to diabetes.
- Soda also messes up hormones in our digestive tract leading to poor functioing of digestive system over time.
In addition to all the above medical facts, just by common sense how are we supposed to drink like 7-8 cups of water, a serve of milk (assuming you are having the other 2 serves of dairy in the form of cheese or yougurt), fresh juices, few cups of tea and cofee - all in a day. Do you know what transformation has happened over the years? Lot of people are choosing to have these soft drinks and do not find appropriate moment or meal time to have milk or fresh juices. Makes me wonder if this shift has anything to do with the fact that the number of diabetic people in America has tripled in the past 2 decades.
Did you know that water is not meant just for us to wash our hands and to bathe in. Water is a wholesome drink.
