Just as the water becomes murky if there is salt or impurities in it, similarly, our soul is going to be murky if there are emotions such as hatred, greed, jealousy or envy in us. Most of us are expert at making ourselves unhappy by focusing on negative things. Instead of being gracious and thankful for what we have, we tend to be very obsessed with what we do not have. Even worse, sometimes, we desire for something not based on our need but just because we covet the acquisitions of others.
Life becomes extremely complex and painful if we entertain such emotions. Be watchful, greed can really consume us. There is no end to the materialistic objects there are in the world. If you try to chase them one after the other, you will exhaust yourself before you have even acquired an insignificant amount of things compared to all. No matter how many things you acquire, there will always be someone with just some more. Give up this chase; it is a lost race and one we do not want to participate in anyway. We should not be jealous or envy others of their
possessions, material or intellectual. We should take inspiration from such entities.
So let us reflect upon ourself and see find out how we can purify our soul.
